So here are some commonly overlooked aspects of training that you should focus on:
1. The recovery period: There is so much focus on the time spent in the gym, yet the majority of changes you are looking for will happen outside of the gym. And one simple way to recover properly is to include a lot of light activity in your daily routine.
2. Hypertrophy: There seems to be a huge stigma with building muscle these days. Yet, building muscle is by far the most effective way to change your body. You see, not only does muscle change you at the cellular level, but it also can permanently change your baseline metabolism.
3. Corrective training: If you have a postural imbalance, your body will eventually give in with weight lifting. It’s like driving a car with tires that are out of alignment, eventually one will pop. So make sure your body is lined up correctly.
4. Shoulder health: Related to the previous point, a lot of what people do in their workouts is horrible for their shoulders. And this gets compounded when an individual has poor posture. In fact, rotator cuff tears are becoming more and more common for the average gym aficionado.
5. Mental preparation: Now I’m not talking about motivation here, I’m talking about very specific psychological techniques that you should use before exercise. After all, a little psychological preparation before exercise can get your body to secrete favorable hormones.
6. Spinal stabilizers: Doing crunches on a ball doesn’t count as spinal stabilization. In fact, doing crunches can create more harm than good. So make sure you focus on stabilization before you move onto any movement based exercises like crunches.
